Commentary on the Koran: Surah 104 “The Slanderer

Pickthall Translation; Bible Quotes are from the English Standard Version unless otherwise noted.

Introduction

Al-Humazah takes its name from the slanderers referred to in verse 1.

At the time of the Prophet the infidels at Becca waylaid newcomers to Becca and slandered the Prophet to negate the faith. The same is true of the faith to this day and even more so in the corrupted Churches of God.

It is an Early Beccan Surah.

104.1.Woe unto every slandering traducer,

104.2. Who hath gathered wealth (of this world) and arranged it.

104.3. He thinketh that his wealth will render him immortal.

104.4. Nay, but verily he will be flung to the Consuming One.

104.5. Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Consuming One is!

104.6. (It is) the fire of Allah, kindled,

104.7. Which leapeth up over the hearts (of men).

104.8. Lo! it is closed in on them

104.6. In outstretched columns.

A false witness will not go unpunished and ill-gotten gains do not profit any person. All unrepentant transgressors of the Law will go to the Second Resurrection to be re-educated to lead them to repentance. It they do not repent during that period they will be cremated in the Lake of Fire at the Second Death.
