Commentary on the Koran: Surah 17 “The Children
of Israel” or “Night Journey”
Pickthall’s
Translation, English Standard Version used unless otherwise noted.
Introduction
Surah
17 “Bani Israel” begins and ends with references to the Israelites as “Children
of Israel.” In verse 1 the Prophet relates his vision where he was carried by
night on a steed from Becca /Madinah to the location of the Temple at
Jerusalem: Hence the alternate title of “Night Journey.”
At
this time the Temple Mount had become a rubbish tip under the Trinitarian
Christians who did not understand the faith at all. It would take the
moblisation of Islam under Omar to retake it and to clean it up. This text was
to make the reclamation possible and show it was necessary.
Here
we refer back to the laws of Moses and the Scriptures. It seems that this
recurrent theme is because the Arabs simply will not accept Scripture, and it
is so to this very day. The lineage of the Faith from Noah through Shem to Abraham
and thence to Moses and the Israelites to the prophets and Messiah and the Churches
of God is a constant theme, as we will see later in the texts on The Ranks and
Those Who Set The Ranks.
Like
Trinitarian Christianity, Islam does not study even the Koran, and they have no
idea of the Scriptures. They in fact blasphemously teach that God has allowed
the Scriptures to be lost and destroyed. Most of Islam is being taught, by
Paganised Baal worshippers, that when they die they go to heaven and those that
die in battle then are gifted seventy-two virgins. Yet the Koran clearly tells
those deluded people again and again that they are to work for the
resurrections of the dead to the Gardens of Paradise (see above Surahs and
below). Many are called but few are chosen. Even two of the last divisions of
the Churches of God are excluded from the First Resurrection due to their
Binitarian/Ditheism and the keeping of the Babylonian intercalations and the
Hillel Calendar, as was done at Becca under the worship of Hu-Bal according to
the calendar under the control of the Bani Kinana of the Qureysh (see the paper
Role of the Fourth Commandment in
the Historical Sabbath-keeping Churches of God (No. 170)).
*****
17.1. Glorified be He Who carried His
servant by night from the Inviolable Place of Worship to the Far distant place
of worship the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, that We might show him of
Our tokens! Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Seer.
Jerusalem
is the Central Place of Worship appointed by God.
Zechariah 8:3 Thus says the Lord: I have
returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall
be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, the holy
mountain.
Isaiah 62:2-3 The nations shall see your
righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new
name that the mouth of the LORD will give.
3You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
Jeremiah 17:10 “I the Lord search the heart
and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the
fruit of his deeds.”
Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are in
every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Hebrews 4:13 And no creature is hidden from
his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must
give account.
Psalm 34:15 The eyes of the Lord are toward
the righteous and his ears toward their cry.
Zechariah
2:8-12 shows clearly that the Lord of Hosts is to send Messiah (who was the
Angel speaking to Zechariah) to Jerusalem and to reclaim Zion, for he who
touches Jerusalem touches the apple of his (my) eye. Jerusalem and the Temple Mount will be the
centre of worship for the whole world at the return of the Messiah. The nations
will join themselves to the Lord in that day and they will know that Eloah as Lord
of Hosts has sent Messiah to them and Judah will control Jerusalem under the
Messiah.
This
is Scripture and Scripture cannot be broken (Jn. 10:34-36). At this time the
elect will all be elohim as sons of God.
17.2. We gave unto Moses the Scripture, and
We appointed it a guidance for the children of Israel, saying: Choose no
guardian beside Me.
Acts 7:38 This is the one who was in the
congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai,
and with our fathers. He received living oracles to give to us.
John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses;
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Malachi 4:4 “Remember the law of my servant
Moses, the statutes and rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.
Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods
before me.
17.3. (They were) the seed of those whom We
carried (in the ship) along with Noah. Lo! he was a grateful slave.
Here the Surah ties Noah into the
sequence with Moses and the children of Israel.
2Peter 2:5 If he did not spare the ancient world, but
preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a
flood upon the world of the ungodly,
Acts 17:26 And he made from one man every nation of
mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods
and the boundaries of their dwelling place.
All
mankind living now are the seed of Noah as are the children of Israel.
17.4. And We decreed for the Children of
Israel in the Scripture: Ye verily will work corruption in the earth twice, and
ye will become great tyrants.
2Kings 17:6-7 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. 7And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods.
Ezekiel 39:23 And the nations shall know that
the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity, because they dealt
so treacherously with me that I hid my face from them and gave them into the
hand of their adversaries, and they all fell by the sword.
Jeremiah 23:3-6 Then I
will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have
driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be
fruitful and multiply. 4I will set shepherds over them who will care
for them, and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be
missing, declares the LORD. 5"Behold, the days are coming,
declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he
shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and
righteousness in the land. 6In his days Judah will be saved, and
Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called:
'The LORD is our righteousness.'
Judah went into captivity on two occasions: once to Babylon and then they were
sent into captivity by the Roman army. It happened to them because of their
sin. Israel went into exile after they sinned against the LORD. Modern day
Israel has done it again and will go into captivity to the Beast power but then
Messiah will take it all captive from Jerusalem.
17.5. So when the time for the first of the
two came, We roused against you slaves of Ours of great might who ravaged
(your) country, and it was a threat performed.
Deuteronomy 31:29 For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and arouse his anger by what your hands have made."
Judah
was exiled to Babylon as God had foretold them through His prophets. The ten
tribes of Israel were taken into
captivity in 722 BCE by the Assyrians and dispersed north of the Araxes. Judah
was sent to the Babylonians in order that the Temple would stand until Messiah
came. So also was the Temple built in Egypt under Onias IV so Messiah could be
there and be called out of Egypt.
17.6. Then we gave you once again
your turn against them, and We aided you with wealth and children and made you
more in soldiery.
17.7. (Saying): If ye do good, ye
do good for your own souls, and if ye do evil, it is for them (in like manner).
So, when the time for the second (of the judgments) came (We roused against you
others of Our slaves) to ravage you, and to enter the Temple even as they
entered it the first time, and to lay waste all that they conquered with an
utter wasting.
Luke 21:20 “But when you see Jerusalem
surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.
They
were sent into captivity the second time after Jerusalem was destroyed by the
Roman armies. See the CCG paper War with Rome and the Fall of the
Temple (No. 298).
17.8. It may be that your Lord will have
mercy on you, but if ye repeat (the crime) We shall repeat (the punishment),
and We have appointed hell a dungeon for the disbelievers.
This
text was not just for the children of Israel.
Here it had already happened to Israel. God was speaking through the Prophet
to the Arabs and also to Israel which at this time had been placed in its
foreign lands. Judah was spread throughout the Arab peoples in North Africa and
the Middle East as well as Iran and into Europe and into China.
The
Hell here is the Scriptural Sheol as the grave or pit.
Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way And
the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will
have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
Hebrews 10:26-27 For if we
go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no
longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a fearful expectation of
judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
17.9. Lo! this Qur'an guideth unto that
which is straightest, and giveth tidings unto the believers who do good works
that theirs will be a great reward.
The text is to all of the faith no
matter where they are.
Refer to 2Timothy 3:16-17 in Commentary
on the Koran: Surah 10 (No. Q010).
Matthew 7:14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Proverbs 4:26 Ponder the path of your feet;
then all your ways will be sure.
17.10. And that those who believe
not in the Hereafter, for them We have prepared a painful doom.
The faith centres on the Resurrections of the Dead and those that think they
can attain to heaven through an eternal soul are infidels.
Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon,
bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done.
Revelation 21:8 But as
for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually
immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake
that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
Refer to Revelation 20:11-15 below at ayat 15.
17.11. Man prayeth for evil as he
prayeth for good; for man was ever hasty.
Proverbs 21:5 The plans
of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only
to poverty.
Proverbs 18:13 If one
gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.
Proverbs 25:8 do not
hastily bring into court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor
puts you to shame?
Proverbs 29:20 Do you
see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for
him.
Ecclesiastes 5:2 Be not
rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God,
for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.
Proverbs 11:14 Where
there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there
is safety.
17.12. And We appoint the night and the day
two portents. Then We make dark the portent of the night, and We make the
portent of the day sight-giving, that ye may seek bounty from your Lord, and
that ye may know the computation of the years, and the reckoning; and
everything have We expounded with a clear expounding.
Genesis 1:14 And God
said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the
day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and
years,
Psalm 104:23 Man goes
out to his work and to his labor until the evening.
Amos 5:8 Seek him that maketh the
seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and
maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and
poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name: (KJV)
Psalm 104:19 He made
the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.
God
has made known to man how to compute the months and the years so we can come
into His presence and worship Him correctly according to His sacred calendar
(see the paper Hebrew and Islamic Calendar
Reconciled (No. 053); and God’s Calendar (No. 156)).
17.13. And every man's augury have We
fastened to his own neck, and We shall bring forth for him on the Day of
Resurrection a book which he will find wide open.
Note the reference to the Day of
Resurrection and Judgment. There is no room for heaven and hell in this
theology.
Proverbs 10:16 The wage
of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin.
Proverbs 11:18 The
wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure
reward.
Isaiah 3:10-11 Tell the
righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their
deeds. 11Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for what his
hands have dealt out shall be done to him.
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul
who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father,
nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the
righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon
himself.
17.14. (And it will be said unto
him): Read thy Book. Thy soul sufficeth as reckoner against thee this day.
17.15. Whosoever goeth right, it is only for
(the good of) his own soul that he goeth right, and whosoever erreth, erreth
only to its hurt. No laden soul can bear another's load, We never punish until
we have sent a messenger.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls
are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the
soul who sins shall die.
Romans 6:23 For the
wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
Jeremiah 31:30 But
everyone shall die for his own iniquity. Each man who eats sour grapes, his
teeth shall be set on edge.
Amos 3:6-7 Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does
disaster come to a city, unless the LORD has done it? 7"For the
Lord GOD does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the
prophets.
God warns through His messengers and those who do not heed the warning will die
and be retaught in the Second Resurrection.
Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white
throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away,
and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and
small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was
opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written
in the books, according to what they had done. 13And the sea gave up
the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and
they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14Then
Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death,
the lake of fire. 15And if anyone's name was not found written in
the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
17.16. And when We would destroy a township
We send commandment to its folk who live at ease, and afterward they commit
abomination therein, and so the Word (of doom) hath effect for it, and we
annihilate it with complete annihilation.
At
the return of the Messiah and the Resurrection of the elect we will see every
centre of false worship on earth destroyed and Jerusalem established and
rebuilt as the centre of worship. All nations will send their representatives
to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of Tabernacles or they will be punished
with no rain in due season and the plagues of Egypt (Zec. 14: 16-19). If the
nations do not keep the Sabbaths and New Moons they will be put to death (Isa.
66:23) as the Sabbaths are tied to the Covenant (cf. S4:154).
Genesis 6:13 And God
said to Noah, "I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth
is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the
earth.
Deuteronomy 11:4 and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses and to their chariots, how he made the water of the Red Sea flow over them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD has destroyed them to this day,
Jude 1:7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the
surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued
unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal
fire.
Ezekiel 7:2-3 "And
you, O son of man, thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The
end has come upon the four corners of the land. 3Now the end is upon
you, and I will send my anger upon you; I will judge you according to your
ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations.
Ezekiel 22:31 Therefore
I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire
of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord
GOD."
17.17. How many generations have We destroyed
since Noah! And Allah sufficeth as Knower and Beholder of the sins of His
slaves.
See Genesis 6:13; Deuteronomy
11:4 and Jude 1:7 above. The inhabitants of Canaan, the Midianites and many more have been destroyed and made
captive.
Refer
also to Hebrews 4:13 at 17.1 above.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 Surely
there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
Romans 3:23 for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the
wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
Those
that do not repent and seek forgiveness for their sins will eventually be
destroyed. God has destroyed many generations from the time of Noah who did not
heed the warnings of the messengers sent to them and repent of their sins.
17.18. Whoso desireth that (life) which
hasteneth away, We hasten for him therein what We will for whom We please. And
afterward We have appointed for him hell; he will endure the heat thereof,
condemned, rejected.
The text refers to death and then the correction
of the Second Resurrection and if they do not repent they will die and be
burned in the Lake of Fire which is the result of the Second Death.
John 12:25 Whoever loves his
life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for
eternal life.
1John 2:16 For all
that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and
pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
Psalm 39:4 "O
LORD, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how
fleeting I am!
Psalm 144:4 Man is
like a breath; his days are like
a passing shadow.
Hebrews 9:27 And just
as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
John 5:28-29 Do not marvel at
this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29and
come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who
have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
17.19. And whoso desireth the Hereafter
and striveth for it with the effort necessary, being a believer; for such,
their effort findeth favour (with their Lord).
These are they that find the reward of
the First Resurrection.
2Timothy 4:8 Henceforth
there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to
all who have loved his appearing.
1Peter 5:4 And when
the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
1Corinthians 9:24-25 You know
that in a race all the runners run but only one wins the prize, don't you? You
must run in such a way that you may be victorious. 25Everyone who
enters an athletic contest practices self-control in everything. They do it to
win a wreath that withers away, but we run to win a prize that never fades. (ISV)
Revelation 3:11 I am coming soon.
Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.
17.20. Each do We supply, both these and
those, from the bounty of thy Lord. And the bounty of thy Lord can never be
walled up.
Psalm 104:28 When you
give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled
with good things.
Psalm 65:11 You crown
the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.
Psalm 145:16 You open
your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
Malachi 3:10 Bring the full tithe into the
storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test,
says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and
pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
17.21. See how We prefer one of them above
another, and verily the Hereafter will be greater in degrees and greater in
preferment.
There
is thus a structure to the Government of God.
Refer
to Jeremiah 17:10 at ayat 17.1 above.
Romans 2:6-8 He will
render to each one according to his works: 7to those who by patience
in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal
life; 8but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth,
but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.
Romans 8:18 For I
consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with
the glory that is to be revealed to us.
2Corinthians 4:17 For this
light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory
beyond all comparison,
17.22. Set not up with Allah any other god (O
man) lest thou sit down reproved, forsaken.
Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered
him, “It is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only
shall you serve.”
Deuteronomy 10:20 And now,
Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your
God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all
your heart and with all your soul,
17.23. Thy Lord hath decreed, that
ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness to parents. If one of
them or both of them attain old age with thee, say not "Fie" unto
them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word.
Thus we are to honour the Fifth Commandment.
Deuteronomy 6:13 It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him
you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.
Exodus 20:12 Honor
your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the
LORD your God is giving you.
Matthew 15:4 Because God said,
'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'Whoever curses father or mother must
certainly be put to death.' (ISV)
1Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does
not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he
has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
1Timothy 5:4 But if a
widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to
their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is
pleasing in the sight of God.
1Timothy 5:1 Do not
rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as
brothers,
17.24. And lower unto them the wing
of submission through mercy, and say: My Lord! Have mercy on them both as they
did care for me when I was little.
Leviticus 19:32 You shall
stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall
fear your God: I am the LORD.
17.25. Your Lord is Best Aware of what is in
your minds. If ye are righteous, then lo! He was ever Forgiving unto those who
turn (unto Him).
Refer to Jeremiah 17:10 at ayat 17.1
above.
Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
Psalm 130:4 But with you there is forgiveness, that you
may be feared.
Psalm 86:5 For you,
O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call
upon you.
17.26. Give the kinsman his due,
and the needy, and the wayfarer, and squander not (thy wealth) in wantonness.
See
1Timothy 5:8 at ayat 17.23 above.
Acts 20:35 In all things I have
shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember
the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give
than to receive.'"
Proverbs 19:17 Whoever
is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed.
Deuteronomy 15:11 For there
will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, 'You shall
open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your
land.'
Hebrews 13:16 Do not
neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing
to God.
17.27. Lo! the squanderers were ever brothers
of the devils, and the devil was ever an ingrate to his Lord.
Proverbs 21:20 Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling, but a foolish
man devours it.
2Corinthians 9:6-7 The point
is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows
bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7Each one must give as he
has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a
cheerful giver.
Proverbs 29:3 He who
loves wisdom makes his father
glad, but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
Proverbs
28:7 The one who keeps the law is a son with understanding, but a companion of
gluttons shames his father.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the
works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry,
sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions,
divisions, 21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I
warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not
inherit the kingdom of God.
1Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of
divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have
rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.”
17.28. But if thou turn away from them,
seeking mercy from thy Lord, for which thou hopest, then speak unto them a
reasonable word.
Proverbs 15:1 A soft
answer turns away wrath, but a harsh
word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:4 A gentle
tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness
in it breaks the spirit.
1Peter 2:18 Servants,
be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle
but also to the unjust.
Psalm 40:11 As for
you, O LORD, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and
your faithfulness will ever preserve me!
Lamentations 3:22 The
steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
17.29. And let not thy hand be chained to thy
neck nor open it with a complete opening, lest thou sit down rebuked, denuded.
Proverbs 11:24 One gives
freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and
only suffers want.
Philippians 4:5 Let your
reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
Aid
thus must be given but must not be reckless.
17.30. Lo! thy Lord enlargeth the provision
for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will). Lo, He was ever
Knower, Seer of His slaves.
Philippians 4:19 And my
God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ
Jesus.
2Corinthians 9:10 He who
supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your
seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
See Psalm 34:15 in ayat 17.1 above.
17.31. Slay not your children, fearing a fall to poverty,
We shall provide for them and for you. Lo! the slaying of them is great
sin.
It is thus sin and must bring
judgement on all nations.
Exodus
20:13 "You shall not murder.
Matthew 5:21 "You have heard that
it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be
liable to judgment.'
Luke 12:24 Consider the ravens:
they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God
feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!
Psalm 145:15-16 The eyes of all look
to you, and you give them their food in due season. 16You open your
hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
We are not to pass our children
through the fire to Molech or to Chemosh, the gods of the Moabites, or to Baal
and the goddess Easter, nor abort them for convenience. The Ka’aba was the
centre of the worship of Baal as HuBal and the goddess and the Venus star as we
see on the centres of worship.
17.32. And come not near unto
adultery. Lo! it is an abomination and an evil way.
Exodus
20:14 “You shall not commit adultery.
Matthew 5:27 You have heard that
it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'
1Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all
appearance of evil. (KJV)
17.33. And slay not the life which
Allah hath forbidden save with right. Whoso is slain wrongfully, We have given
power unto his heir, but let him not commit excess in slaying. Lo! he will be
helped.
The Avenger of Blood is given
power under the law (see the Law and the Sixth Commandment
(No. 259)).
Exodus 23:7 Keep far from a
false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit
the wicked.
Genesis 9:5-6 And for your
lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and
from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. 6"Whoever
sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his
own image.
Exodus 21:12-14 Whoever strikes a
man so that he dies shall be put to death. 13But if he did not lie
in wait for him, but God let him fall into his hand, then I will appoint for
you a place to which he may flee. 14But if a man willfully attacks
another to kill him by cunning, you shall take him from my altar, that he may
die.
Deuteronomy 19:11-13 But if anyone hates
his neighbor and lies in wait for him and attacks him and strikes him fatally
so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities, 12then the
elders of his city shall send and take him from there, and hand him over to the
avenger of blood, so that he may die. 13Your eye shall not pity him,
but you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, so that it may be
well with you.
17.34. Come not near the wealth of the orphan save with
that which is better till he come to strength; and keep the covenant. Lo! of
the covenant it will be asked.
Exodus 20:17 "You shall not
covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his
male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that
is your neighbor's."
Exodus
22:22 You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.
Malachi 3:5 "Then I will draw
near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers,
against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who
oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against
those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the LORD of
hosts.
17.35. Fill the measure when ye measure, and weigh with a
right balance; that is meet, and better in the end.
Deuteronomy 25:15 You must have honest
weights and measuring devices, so you may live long in the land that the LORD
your God is about to give you, (ISV)
Leviticus 19:36 You are to maintain
just balances and reliable standards for weights, dry volumes, and liquid
volumes. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
(ISV)
Proverbs 20:10 Unequal weights and
unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the LORD.
17.36. (O man), follow not that
whereof thou hast no knowledge. Lo! the hearing and the sight and the heart -
of each of these it will be asked.
Proverbs 19:2 Desire without
knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.
Romans 14:12 So then each of us will give an
account of himself to God.
2Corinthians 5:10 For we must all
appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is
due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
17.37. And walk not in the earth
exultant. Lo! thou canst not rend the earth, nor canst thou stretch to the
height of the hills.
17.38. The evil of all that is hateful
in the sight of thy Lord.
1Samuel 2:3 Talk no more so very
proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the LORD is a God of
knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
Romans 12:3 For by the grace
given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly
than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the
measure of faith that God has assigned.
Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD
is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech
I hate.
Isaiah
2:22 Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?
Isaiah 13:11 I will punish the
world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the
pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless.
The texts are thus simple
restatements of the law.
17.39. This is (part) of that wisdom
wherewith thy Lord hath inspired thee (O Muhammad). And set not up with Allah
any other god, lest thou be cast into hell, reproved, abandoned.
Refer to 2Timothy 3:16-17 and Deuteronomy 29:29 in Commentary on the Koran: Surah 10 (No.
Q010).
Deuteronomy 8:19 And if you forget the LORD
your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly
warn you today that you shall surely perish.
17.40. Hath your Lord then distinguished you (O men of
Makka) by giving you sons, and hath chosen for Himself females from among the
angels? Lo! verily ye speak an awful word!
Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are
a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Deuteronomy 28:4 Blessed shall be the
fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle,
the increase of your herds and the young of your flock.
Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection
they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Revelation 22:9 but he said to me, “You must
not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and
with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
There is no gender among the angelic
Host.
17.41. We verily have displayed (Our warnings) in this
Qur'an that they may take heed, but it increaseth them in naught save
aversion.
Ezekiel 3:20-21 Again, if a
righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, and I lay
a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not warned him, he
shall die for his sin, and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be
remembered, but his blood I will require at your hand. 21But if you
warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely
live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.
1Corinthians 10:11 Now these things
happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction,
on whom the end of the ages has come.
1Corinthians 10:6 Now these things
took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.
Psalm 53:2-3 God looks down from
heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek
after God. 3They have all fallen away; together they have become
corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep
have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has
laid on him the iniquity of us all.
The Messiah has thus borne all
our sins.
There are very few who understand
and are called. One cannot understand the faith without the Holy Spirit leading
them and to do that they must be baptised to be converted. It is Allah’ that
baptises with conversion through the Holy Spirit after baptism and the laying
on of hands.
17.42. Say (O Muhammad, to the disbelievers): If there
were other gods along with Him, as they say, then had they sought a way against
the Lord of the Throne.
17.43. Glorified is He, and High
Exalted above what they say!
17.44. The seven heavens and the earth and all that is
therein praise Him, and there is not a thing but hymneth His praise; but ye
understand not their praise. Lo! He is ever Clement, Forgiving.
Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and
there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not
know me,
Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, even
I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I
heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.
1Samuel 2:2 There is none holy
like the LORD: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.
Isaiah 40:25 To whom then will
you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One.
1Chronicles 29:11-12 Yours, O LORD, is
the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for
all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above
all. 12Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all.
In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to
give strength to all.
Psalm 96:4 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.
Psalm 86:5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
17.45. And when thou recitest the
Qur'an we place between thee and those who believe not in the Hereafter a
hidden barrier;
One cannot understand Scripture without
the Holy Spirit. There is a barrier placed by God to the understanding of those
that are not called and chosen.
Psalm 125:2 As the mountains
surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time forth and
forevermore.
Psalm 139:5 You hem me in,
behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
One cannot receive the Holy
Spirit unless we are baptised as a repentant adult and have hands laid on you
for the Holy Spirit. That is why the
world does not understand either Scripture or the Koran and we speak to them in
parables lest they see and hear and understand before their time.
It is now time to deal with all
nations before the coming of the Messiah.
17.46. And We place upon their hearts
veils lest they should understand it, and in their ears a deafness; and when
thou makest mention of thy Lord alone in the Qur'an, they turn their backs in
aversion.
Isaiah 6:9 And he said,
"Go, and say to this people: "'Keep on hearing, but do not
understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.'
John 12:40 "He has blinded
their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and
understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them."
Romans 11:8 as it is written,
"God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that
would not hear, down to this very day."
Jeremiah 32:33 They have turned to
me their back and not their face. And though I have taught them persistently,
they have not listened to receive instruction.
Everyone who wilfully refuses
instruction will suffer punishment.
17.47. We are Best Aware of what they wish to hear when
they give ear to thee and when they take secret counsel, when the evil-doers
say: Ye follow but a man bewitched.
17.48. See what similitudes they coin
for thee, and thus are all astray, and cannot find a road!
2Timothy 4:3 For the time is
coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they
will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow
gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and
those who enter by it are many. 14for the gate is narrow and the way
is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
See 2Peter 1:21 at ayat 17.89 below.
17.49. And they say: When we are bones
and fragments, shall we forsooth, be raised up as a new creation?
17.50. Say: Be ye stones or iron
17.51. Or some created thing that is
yet greater in your thoughts! Then they will say: Who shall bring us back (to
life). Say: He Who created you at the first. Then will they shake their heads
at thee, and say: When will it be? Say: It will perhaps be soon;
17.52. A day when He will call you and
ye will answer with His praise, and ye will think that ye have tarried but a
little while.
The High Priest of God is Messiah
as High Priest of the order of Melchisedek (cf. Commentary on Hebrews (No. F058))
and upon his return are we all dependent for the Resurrection of the Just.
1Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself
will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel,
and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise
first.
Isaiah 26:19 Your dead shall
live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for
joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead.
Ezekiel 37:4-10 Then he said to me,
"Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of
the LORD. 5Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Behold, I will
cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. 6And I will lay
sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with
skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am
the LORD." 7So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I
prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came
together, bone to its bone. 8And I looked, and behold, there were
sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But
there was no breath in them. 9Then
he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to
the breath, Thus says the Lord GOD: Come from the four winds, O breath, and
breathe on these slain, that they may live." 10So I prophesied
as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on
their feet, an exceedingly great army.
1Corinthians 15:51-52 Behold! I tell you a
mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52in a
moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will
sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
See
John 5:28 at ayat 17.18 above.
17.53. Tell My bondmen to speak that which is
kindlier. Lo! the devil soweth discord among them. Lo! the devil is for man an
open foe.
Proverbs 15:4 A gentle
tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
Proverbs 6:16-19 There are
six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17haughty
eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18a heart
that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19a
false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Romans 16:17-18 I appeal
to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create
obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. 18For
such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by
smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.
1Peter 5:8 Be
sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
17.54. Your Lord is Best Aware of you. If He
will, He will have mercy on you, or if He will, He will punish you. We have not
sent thee (O Muhammad) as a warden over them.
Romans 9:15 For he
says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have
compassion on whom I have compassion."
The messenger’s duty is just to convey the message. The church however has
power to deliver the open sinner to the world so that his life might be saved
in the Last Days (1Cor. 5:5).
17.55. And thy Lord is Best Aware of all who
are in the heavens and the earth. And we preferred some of the prophets above
others, and unto David We gave the Psalms.
Refer to Hebrews 4.13 at ayat 17.1
above.
So also some were killed in terrible
ways.
Amos 3:7 “Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets”
Surah 4 Ayat 163 (Pickthall) Lo! We inspire thee as We inspired Noah and the prophets after him, as We inspired Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron and Solomon, and as We imparted unto David the Psalms.
The Koran confirms
the Scripture in the OT and the NT.
17.56. Say: Cry unto those (saints and
angels) whom ye assume (to be gods) beside Him, yet they have no power to rid
you of misfortune nor to change.
17.57. Those unto whom they cry
seek the way of approach to their Lord, which of them shall be the nearest;
they hope for His mercy and they fear His doom. Lo! the doom of thy Lord is to
be shunned.
Psalm 82:6-7 I said, "You are gods, sons of the Most
High, all of you; 7nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall
like any prince."
Psalm 146:3-4 Do not
look to nobles, nor to mere human beings who cannot save. 4When they
stop breathing, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans
evaporate! (ISV)
James 2:19 You
believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!
Romans 9:16 So then
it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but
cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in
hell.
17.58. There is not a township but
We shall destroy it ere the Day of Resurrection, or punish it with dire
punishment. That is set forth in the Book (of Our decrees).
For
the Second Resurrection all cities will be destroyed and the world prepared for
the Resurrection as a Garden of Paradise and readied as a place of instruction
and Judgment and then cleared for the City of God (No. 180).
2Peter 3:10-12 But the day of the Lord will come like a
thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies
will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on
it will be exposed. 11Since all these things are thus to be
dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and
godliness, 12waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God,
because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the
heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
Proverbs 11:21 Be assured, an evil person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will be delivered.
Ecclesiastes 8:8 No man has power to retain
the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor
will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.
17.59. Naught hindereth Us from sending
portents save that the folk of old denied them. And We gave Thamud the
she-camel - a clear portent save to warn.
Job 42:2 I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
Luke 16:31 He said to him, 'If
they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if
someone should rise from the dead.'
The tribe of Thamud were warned against ill treating the she camel by the
messenger of God but they did not heed the warning and they were destroyed.
This text is thus to the Arabs as well as the Bani Israel and refer to their
judgment. In this sense, the sons of Aram are also linked to
the city of the Iram as part of the greater Arab
community. They were destroyed.
17.60. And (it was a warning) when we told
thee: Lo! thy Lord encompasseth mankind, and We appointed the sight which We
showed thee as an ordeal for mankind, and (likewise) the Accursed Tree in the
Qur'an. We warn them, but it increaseth them in naught save gross impiety.
So also we see they are condemned for
impiety. They have not repented.
Refer to Hebrews 4.13 at ayat 17.1
above.
Psalm 33:13-14 The
LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; 14From His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the
earth, 15He who fashions the
hearts of them all, He who understands all their works. (NASB)
This may also be a reference to the fig tree that was cursed by Messiah.
Matthew 21:19 And seeing a fig
tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And
he said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again!" And the fig
tree withered at once.
Romans 10:16 But they
have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed
what he has heard from us?"
Mankind
is on trial during their lifetime as to whether they will bear the right fruit.
Bearing no fruit or bad fruit gets them consigned to the Second Resurrection to
face corrective judgment.
17.61. And when We said unto the angels: Fall
down prostrate before Adam and they fell prostrate all save Iblis, he said:
Shall I fall prostrate before that which Thou hast created of clay?
17.62. He said: Seest Thou this (creature)
whom Thou hast honoured above me, if Thou give me grace until the Day of
Resurrection I verily will seize his seed, save but a few.
16.63. He said: Go, and whosoever of them
followeth thee - lo! hell will be your payment, ample payment.
17.64. And excite any of them whom thou canst
with thy voice, and urge thy horse and foot against them, and be a partner in
their wealth and children, and promise them. Satan promiseth them only to
deceive.
Genesis 2:7 So the
LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground, breathed life into his
lungs, and the man became a living being. (ISV).
Hebrews 1:7 Of the
angels he says, "He makes his angels
winds, and his ministers a flame of fire."
Revelation 12:9 And the
great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and
Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his
angels were thrown down with him.
Revelation 21:8 But as
for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually
immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake
that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
Revelation 20:10 And the
devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where
the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and
night for ever and ever. (KJV)
Ayats
61 to 64 tell the story that when man was created, the angels were told to instruct
and guide the human species in right living in compliance with the commandments
and statutes of God. The loyal angelic Host
agreed to do so but Satan and his troops refused. He asked for time for his
punishment to be delayed until the general resurrection and he stated that he would
seize all of Adam’s seed except the few that will not follow him. The Almighty
God gave him his request. For deceiving mankind his reward will be his
reduction to a physical being and be killed after the final rebellion and
raised as a physical being in the Second Resurrection to face corrective
judgment as the Bible clearly informs us. To mislead mankind Satan would make all
kinds of promises, i.e. material wealth, children, power etc. to his minions
and devotees to walk in his evil ways. Revelation 12:9 states he has deceived
the whole world.
17.65. Lo! My (faithful) bondmen - over them
thou hast no power, and thy Lord sufficeth as (their) guardian.
Over
God’s faithful Satan would have no power as God would be their guardian. They
are the elect as the Body of Messiah with the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 34:7 The angel
of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Psalm 4:3 But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.
Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be
not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will
uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Read
the whole of Psalm 91.
God
gave the Psalms to David as stated also by the Koran.
17.66. (O mankind), your Lord is He Who
driveth for you the ship upon the sea that ye may seek of His bounty. Lo! He
was ever Merciful toward you.
17.67. And when harm toucheth you upon the
sea, all unto whom ye cry (for succour) fail save Him (alone), but when He
bringeth you safe to land, ye turn away, for man was ever thankless.
Psalm 107:23-30 Some went down to
the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; 24they saw the
deeds of the LORD, his wondrous works in the deep. 25For he
commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. 26They
mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away
in their evil plight; 27they reeled and staggered like drunken men
and were at their wits' end. 28Then they cried to the LORD in their
trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 29He made the
storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 30Then they
were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired
haven.
When their troubles come to an end mankind soon forgets and goes back to their
familiar ways.
17.68. Feel ye then secure that He will not
cause a slope of the land to engulf you, or send a sand-storm upon you, and
then ye will find that ye have no protector?
17.69. Or feel ye secure that He will not
return you to that (plight) a second time, and send against you a hurricane of
wind and drown you for your thanklessness, and then ye will not find therein
that ye have any avenger against Us?
Psalm 18:2 The LORD
is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take
refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Without
the Almighty God on his side how can man be secure at all times.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 Again I
saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the
strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to
those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.
Proverbs 21:30 No wisdom, no understanding, no
counsel can avail against the LORD.
Nothing
will aid man against his maker. Loyalty, obedience and faith are required of
him. See Proverbs 11:21 and
Ecclesiastes 8:8 at ayat 17.58 above.
17.70. Verily we have honoured the Children
of Adam. We carry them on the land and the sea, and have made provision of good
things for them, and have preferred them above many of those whom We created
with a marked preferment.
Psalm 8:4-8 what is
man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? 5Yet
you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with
glory and honor. 6You have given him dominion over the works of your
hands; you have put all things under his feet, 7all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field, 8the birds of the heavens, and the
fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
Philippians 4:19 And my
God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ
Jesus.
Psalm 145:15-16 The eyes
of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. 16You
open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17.71. On the day when We shall summon all
men with their record, whoso is given his book in his right hand - such will
read their book and they will not be wronged a shred.
17.72. Whoso is blind here will be blind in
the Hereafter, and yet further from the road.
This
refers to Matthew 25 verse 46. The righteous will be given their record in
their right hand and rewarded with eternal life in the First Resurrection as
Revelation 20 verse 6 says above. The blindness that blinds humanity will remain
until it is removed in the Second Resurrection.
2Corinthians 3:14 But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.
17.73. And they indeed strove hard to beguile
thee (Muhammad) away from that wherewith We have inspired thee, that thou
shouldst invent other than it against Us; and then would they have accepted
thee as a friend.
Galatians 1:7-9 Which is not
another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of
Christ. 8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other
gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any
other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (KJV)
2Corinthians 11:4 For if
someone comes along and preaches another Jesus than the one we preached, or
should you receive a different spirit from the one you received or a different
gospel from the one you accepted, you are all too willing to listen. (ISV)
James 4:4 You
adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity
with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an
enemy of God.
17.74. And if We had not made thee wholly
firm thou mightest almost have inclined unto them a little.
Colossians 1:10-12 so as to
walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in
every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. 11May you be
strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance
and patience with joy, 12giving thanks to the Father, who has
qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
1Corinthians 16:13 Be
watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet
trials of various kinds, 3for you know that the testing of your
faith produces steadfastness. 4And let steadfastness have its full
effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
17.75. Then had we made thee taste a double
(punishment) of living and a double (punishment) of dying, then hadst thou
found no helper against Us.
This
text refers to the Second Death.
Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is
impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have
tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5and
have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6and
then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are
crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to
contempt.
2Peter 2:20-22 For if,
after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and
overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21For
it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness
than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
22What the true proverb says has happened to them: "The dog
returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow
in the mire."
Ezekiel 23:35 Therefore thus says the Lord
GOD: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, you yourself
must bear the consequences of your lewdness and whoring.”
Those
who go astray from the true path have no helper against God. They have to face
the consequences of the Second Resurrection.
17.76. And they indeed wished to
scare thee from the land that they might drive thee forth from thence, and then
they would have stayed (there) but a little after thee.
17.77. (Such was Our) method in the case of
those whom We sent before thee (to mankind), and thou wilt not find for Our
method aught of power to change.
When
people cannot persuade one that is called away from the true path, they do not
want to associate with them. If they could they would want to expel them from
the territory over which they have control or they may kill the saints as they
did with the prophets before them.
1Kings 19:10 He said,
"I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people
of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your
prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to
take it away."
Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills
the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have
gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and
you were not willing!
1Thessalonians 2:15 Who both
killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they
please not God, and are contrary to all men: (KJV)
Psalm 135:6 Whatever
the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.
Job 42:1-2 Then Job
answered the LORD and said: 2"I know that you can do all
things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
17.78. Establish worship at the
going down of the sun until the dark of night, and (the recital of) the Qur'an
at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn is ever witnessed.
17.79. And some part of the night awake for
it, a largess for thee. It may be that thy Lord will raise thee to a praised
estate.
In this text we
see the Mursal rewarded by being raised to a Muhammadan state. Thus the
Introduction Q001 deals with
this aspect of the name.
Daniel 6:10 When
Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he
had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his
knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had
done previously.
Psalm 55:17 Morning,
noon, and night, I mulled over these things and cried out in my distress, and
he heard my voice. (ISV)
Psalm 119:164 I praise
you seven times a day because of your righteous ordinances. (ISV)
Galatians 6:9 And let
us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not
give up.
2Peter 1:10 Therefore, brothers, be all the
more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these
qualities you will never fall.
17.80. And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in
with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy
presence a sustaining Power.
Psalm 37:30-31 The mouth
of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. 31The
law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.
Psalm 121:8 The LORD
will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and
forevermore.
Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (KJV)
Psalm 28:7 The LORD
is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart
exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
17.81. And say: Truth hath come and falsehood
hath vanished away. Lo! falsehood is ever bound to vanish.
Proverbs 12:19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
17.82. And We reveal of the Qur'an that which
is a healing and a mercy for believers though it increase the evil-doers in
naught save ruin.
17.83. And when We make life pleasant unto
man, he turneth away and is averse; and when ill toucheth him he is in despair.
17.84. Say: Each one doth according to his
rule of conduct, and thy Lord is Best Aware of him whose way is right.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in
the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6In
all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Psalm 32:8 I will
instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my
eye upon you.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide
you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but
whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are
to come.
Psalm 10:5-6 His ways prosper at all times; your judgments
are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them. 6He
says in his heart, "I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I
shall not meet adversity.
When
adversity or chastisement visits the arrogant they feel they do not deserve it
and are sad.
Proverbs 16:2 All the
ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit.
17.85. They are asking thee concerning the Spirit. Say: The Spirit is by
command of my Lord, and of knowledge ye have been vouchsafed but little.
17.86. And if We willed We could withdraw that which We have revealed unto
thee, then wouldst thou find no guardian for thee against Us in respect
thereof.
17.87. (It is naught) save mercy from thy Lord. Lo! His kindness unto thee
was ever great.
17.88. Say: Verily, though mankind and the jinn should assemble to produce
the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like thereof though they
were helpers one of another.
17.89. And verily We have displayed for mankind in this Qur'an all kind of
similitudes, but most of mankind refuse aught save disbelief.
Most do not
understand the function of the Holy Spirit. It is by the Spirit that
understanding is conveyed, and it is when the person sins or strays from the
faith that the Holy Spirit is removed.
When one is obedient then more understanding in the Spirit is added to
the person. Those who do not obey the Laws of God are not given understanding
and what they have is removed as they sin further.
Refer to 2Timothy 3:16-17 and Deuteronomy 29:29 in Commentary on the Koran: Surah 10 (No.
Q010).

16:13 at ayat 17.84 above.
2Peter 1:20-21 First of all, you
must understand this: No prophecy in Scripture is a matter of one's own
interpretation, 21because no prophecy ever originated through a
human decision. Instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the
Holy Spirit. (ISV)
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing
through the word of Christ.
John 6:44 No one can come to
me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last
day.
17.90. And they say: We will not put faith in thee till thou cause a spring
to gush forth from the earth for us;
17.91. Or thou have a garden of date-palms and grapes, and cause rivers to
gush forth therein abundantly;
17.92. Or thou cause the heaven to fall upon us piecemeal, as thou hast
pretended, or bring Allah and the angels as a warrant;
17.93. Or thou have a house of gold; or thou ascend up into heaven, and even
then we will put no faith in thine ascension till thou bring down for us a book
that we can read. Say (O Muhammad): My Lord be Glorified! Am I aught save a
mortal messenger?
17.94. And naught prevented mankind from believing when the guidance came
unto them save that they said: Hath Allah sent a mortal as (His) messenger?
17.95. Say: If there were in the earth angels walking secure, We had sent
down for them from heaven an angel as messenger.
The texts here
refer to the Messiah and the signs that men sought from him. So also they seek
signs from the Councils of the Churches of God.
Matthew 12:38 Then some of the
scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, "Teacher, we wish to see a
sign from you."
Luke 11:29 When the crowds were increasing, he began to
say, "This generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign, but no
sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.
Luke 16:31 He said to him, 'If
they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if
someone should rise from the dead.'
Romans 10:16 But they have not
all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he
has heard from us?"
Matthew 13:14 Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah
is fulfilled that says: "'"You will indeed hear but never understand,
and you will indeed see but never perceive."
The Israelites saw all the signs and miracles during the time of Moses. The
people during the time of Christ saw many miracles. The effect is only on those
called out to believe at this time. To the rest it will have no impact at all.
Their minds have been blinded so they will see but will not perceive. Refer to
John 12.40 and ayat 17.46 above.
17.96. Say: Allah sufficeth for a witness between me and you. Lo! He is
Knower, Seer of His slaves.
Refer to Hebrews 4:13 at ayat 17.1 above.
Proverbs 5:21 For a man's ways are
before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his paths.
17.97. And he whom Allah guideth, he is led aright; while, as for him whom He
sendeth astray, for them thou wilt find no protecting friends beside Him, and
We shall assemble them on the Day of Resurrection on their faces, blind, dumb
and deaf; their habitation will be hell; whenever it abateth, We increase the
flame for them.
17.98. That is their reward because they disbelieved Our revelations and
said: When we are bones and fragments shall we, forsooth, be raised up as a new
creation?
17.99. Have they not seen that Allah Who created the heavens and the earth is
Able to create the like of them, and hath appointed for them an end whereof
there is no doubt? But the wrong-doers refuse aught save disbelief.
Romans 9:18 So then he has mercy
on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
Psalm 37:23 The steps of a man
are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way;
1Samuel 2:9 He will guard the feet of his faithful ones,
but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness, for not by might shall a man
prevail.
Psalm 25:12 Who is the man who fears the LORD? Him will
he instruct in the way that he should choose.
Proverbs 5:23 He dies for lack of discipline, and because
of his great folly he is led astray.
The unbelievers do what seems right to them and end up further away from the
true way and get sent to the Second Resurrection. Ayat 98 refers to Ezekiel's
vision of the valley of dry bones (Ezek. 37:1–14). Man does not believe that he
will be raised as a new creation in the resurrection because of all the lies
they have been told.
17.100. Say (unto them): If ye possessed the treasures of the mercy of my
Lord, ye would surely hold them back for fear of spending, for man was ever
grudging.
Proverbs 11:24-25 One gives freely,
yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only
suffers want. 25Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one
who waters will himself be watered.
Proverbs 28:27 Whoever gives to the
poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
17.101. And verily We gave unto Moses nine
tokens, clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty). Do but ask the Children of
Israel how he came unto them, then Pharaoh said unto him: Lo! I deem thee one
bewitched, O Moses.
17.102. He said: In truth thou knowest that
none sent down these (portents) save the Lord of the heavens and the earth as
proofs, and lo! (for my part) I deem thee lost, O Pharaoh.
Nine clear proofs of Allah’s sovereignty are detailed in Exodus - Aaron’s Staff
Becomes a Snake in Exodus 7, The Plague of Blood in Exodus 7, The Plague of
Frogs in Exodus 7 & 8, The Plague of Gnats in Exodus 8, The Plague of Flies
in Exodus 8, The Plague on Livestock in Exodus 9, The Plague of Boils in Exodus
9, The Plague of Hail in Exodus 9, The Plague of Locusts in Exodus 10, The
Plague of Darkness in Exodus 10 and The Plague on the Firstborn in Exodus 11
and Moses’ hand turning leprous.
There
are actually 12 but three were dismissed as magicians’ tricks and replicated by
the Magicians and so the Koran counts the later nine. Pharaoh claimed Moses was
possessed, but Moses refuted that, claiming they came about to prove the
sovereignty of Allah. Refer to 2Peter
1:20-21 in ayat 17.89 above.
17.103. And he wished to scare them from the
land, but We drowned him and those with him, all together.
The Egyptian records do not indicate
that Pharaoh himself was actually drowned but his army certainly was drowned
and the Koran says here he was drowned. He may have been salvaged.
Exodus 14:26-28 Then the
LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water
may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their
horsemen." 27So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and
the sea returned to its normal course when the morning appeared. And as the
Egyptians fled into it, the LORD threw the Egyptians into the midst of the sea.
28The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of
all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them
remained.
17.104. And We said unto the Children of
Israel after him: Dwell in the land; but when the promise of the Hereafter
cometh to pass We shall bring you as a crowd gathered out of various nations.
Joshua 21:43 Thus the
LORD gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And
they took possession of it, and they settled there.
Jeremiah 16:14-15 Therefore,
behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when it shall no longer be
said, 'As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of
Egypt,' 15but 'As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel
out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven
them.' For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their
fathers.
17.105. With truth have We sent it down, and
with truth hath it descended. And We have sent thee as naught else save a
bearer of good tidings and a warner.
17.106. And (it is) a Qur'an that We have
divided, that thou mayst recite it unto mankind at intervals, and We have
revealed it by (successive) revelation.
17.107. Say: Believe therein or believe not,
lo! those who were given knowledge before it, when it is read unto them, fall
down prostrate on their faces, adoring,
17.108. Saying: Glory to our Lord! Verily the
promise of our Lord must be fulfilled.
17.109. They fall down on their faces,
weeping, and it increaseth humility in them.
17.110. Say (unto mankind): Cry unto Allah, or
cry unto the Beneficent, unto whichsoever ye cry (it is the same). His are the
most beautiful names. And thou (Muhammad), be not loud-voiced in thy worship
nor yet silent therein, but follow a way between.
17.111. And say: Praise be to Allah, Who hath
not taken unto Himself a son, and Who hath no partner in the Sovereignty, nor
hath He any protecting friend through dependence. And magnify Him with all
magnificence.
The
Names of God in Islam (No. 054)
are examined in relation to the Names of God (No. 116)
and Etymology of the Names
of God (No. 220) in the Bible. More Modern Islam claims the names are
100 but these are non-Scriptural variations. Verse 111 states that God did not
take unto Himself a son in the sense of a being born by procreation. However,
the purpose of the entire creation both spiritual and physical was to enable us
all to become sons of God in the Spiritual sense linked to the One True God by
the Holy Spirit.
Also
in communication with the Father, when you pray do not do it to be seen of men
but go into your private rooms and pray. Do not forsake gathering together but
do not pray as the heathen by rote.
Hebrews 1:1-2 Long ago,
at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2but
in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir
of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Ezekiel 3:17 Son of
man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a
word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.

3:16-17 and Deuteronomy 29:29 at ayat 89 above. See also 2Peter 2:5 at ayat 17.3 above.
Acts 17:11 Now these
Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with
all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room and
shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who
sees in secret will reward you.
Isaiah 46:8-10 "Remember
this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, 9remember
the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and
there is none like me, 10declaring the end from the beginning and
from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I
will accomplish all my purpose,'

1Chronicles 29:11-12 at ayat 17.44 above.
God Almighty spoke
the word and Christ came to be in the womb of Marium (cf. also Genesis 1:3, 6,9).
Know ye not that we shall be gods (elohim or theoi), all of us, and Scripture
cannot be broken (cf. Psalm 82:6; John 10:34-36). It is merely a matter of
which resurrection by which we achieve it.
