Commentary on the Koran:

Surah 11 “Hud”

(Edition 3.0 20170720-20170923-20180605-20201219)

Surah 11 follows on from Q009 and Q010 dealing with the church and the prophets and goes on to the primary roles of the Arabian prophets from Noah on to the sons of Shem and through the sons of Abraham who failed to obey God and how they are divided into the two elements of those who are of the faith and those destroyed and sent to the Second Resurrection. Like Surah 10 it is a warning to the Arab peoples and those of modern Islam and also the sons of Keturah and Ishmael generally.

Commentary on the Koran: Surah 11 “Hud"

Pickthall’s translation with RSV biblical quotes unless otherwise noted.

Introduction

This Surah 11 “Hud” takes its name from verse 50 which begins the story of Hud of the tribe of A’ad, one of the prophets of Arabia who is not mentioned in the Scriptures either OT or NT. The text also has the story of two other Arab prophets; Salih of the tribe of Thamud and Shu’eyb of Midian. Jethro of Midian is mentioned in the OT but Shu’eyb is not. However, Jethro as father-in-law of Moses is indisputably listed as a priest of God in Midian. Pickthall states Shu’eyb is identified with Jethro and states that he, Noah and Moses were identified with Divine Revelation. Thus Surah 11 takes over the story and the truth is vindicated in a manner supplementary to Surah 10.

It should be noted that Job was written prior to the Torah and the people noted in Job were mentioned in the texts of the Torah.  Job himself was a man of the tribe of Issachar and he must have left Egypt prior to the persecution of Israel and taken up residence in Arabia and perhaps in Midian.

It is regarded as a late  Beccan Surah (i.e. pre 622) except for verse 114f. which was revealed at Al-Medinah. These texts relate to the prophets and the warnings that the demons and mankind together are given and that they both will be sent to Sheol (hell) i.e. to the grave.

The text shows the end problems of Islam by virtue of its paganised system.

As we understand, the Church of God established the Arabian branch in Arabia through the groups that had been there after the spread of the church into Syria, and out north into what is now Iran and into the Northern elements of the Parthian Empire into Georgia and Armenia and the areas around the Black Sea.

As we have explained previously a man named Qasim ibn Abdullah (or Abd Allah’) ibn Abdul-Muttalib bin Hashim, of the tribe of Qureysh of Ishmael of the Arabicised Arabs among the Arabs of the sons of Keturah, was taught the faith by his wife’s family and taught to read. He is thought to have been initially a Nestorian (Abu Qasim) but was baptised into the Church of God sometime after 608 CE. He became one of the Muhammad which was the name of the council of the Church of God in Arabia. In other words he was made an elder of the Church of God and appointed to its governing body. The structure and his background and identity are discussed in the papers Introduction to the Commentary on the Koran: Prologue (QP), Introduction to the Commentary on the Koran (No. Q001) and the paper Descendants of Abraham Part III: Ishmael (No. 212C).

The church lasted only three generations through the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs and after that was taken over by the paganised Arabs and the Shia split was forced with the barbaric execution of the grandson of the Prophet Ali and of Hussein. The writings of the Church known as the Muhammad were collected and formed what is known as the Qur’an or Koran. They were meant to be read as a commentary on the faith in Arabia and based on the Scriptures before them, both OT and NT. These churches were referred to as the “People of the Book” and they were recognised in the Koran as the supreme authority of the meaning of the Scriptures and of the faith.

The paganised Arabs then began writing a series of false documentation which became the ongoing commentary on the Koran in much the same way as the Talmud was developed on the Mishnah over the third and subsequent centuries to destroy the effect of Scripture. This was called the Hadith, referred to also as the Sunna, and became the basis of Sunni Islam. The Jews had themselves converted Arab tribes that tried to completely destroy the church in Arabia and the head of the church, the Muhammad, who was the prophet Qasim ibn Abdullah, was forced to take up arms against them in order to survive. This was part of the Pergammos Era.

The western elements in the Middle East were in Anatolia and extended to the Taurus Mountains. They were known as Paulicians and they and the Muhammad of Arabia had to take up arms simply to survive as they were attacked by the Byzantine so-called Christians at Constantinople and the Paganised Arabs in the East in Iraq and Arabia. This is intimated in the comments in Revelation chapter 2 where the Messiah, the Christ, is said to come against them with the sword of his mouth because they had become corrupted.

The war in Islam stems from the seizure of the faith by these paganised Arabs, using the Hadith or the Sunna, and they were resisted by the Shia faction which also lost the understanding of the faith due to these influences in much the same way as the Jews had and as the Christians had in their divisions from the Trinitarians to Nestorians.

The rapid spread of Islam had also exposed it to the corrupting influences of the Indians and the Chinese and we will see how the original teachings were corrupted and in that examination we will once again look at the teachings of the Church as laid out in the Koran.

It is for these reasons that Modern Hadithic and Shia Islam cannot survive.

Messengers or prophets are sent to warn and to bring good news to mankind and it has always been so. It began with Shem at Jerusalem and it continued through Abraham and then Moses and then from Jerusalem on into the church and then all over the world. Its purpose is to spread the understanding of the necessity to turn to God in Repentance.

11.3. And (bidding you): Ask pardon of your Lord and turn to Him repentant. He will cause you to enjoy a fair estate until a time appointed. He giveth His bounty unto every bountiful one. But if ye turn away, lo! (then) I fear for you the retribution of an awful Day.

11.5. Lo! now they fold up their breasts that they may hide (their thoughts) from Him. At the very moment when they cover themselves with their clothing, Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim. Lo! He is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men).

Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Matthew 6:25-30 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27“And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28“And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! (NASB)

11.7. And He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days - and His Throne was upon the water - that He might try you, which of you is best in conduct. Yet if thou (O Muhammad) sayest: Lo! ye will be raised again after death! those who disbelieve will surely say: This is naught but mere magic.

The Resurrection of the Dead is the major thrust of the Koran and the Plan of God.

1Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. (ERV)

In relation to being raised from the dead read also Ezekiel chapter 37.

1Corinthians 15:12-22 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. 20But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. 21For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. (NASB)

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

11.8. And if We delay for them the doom until a reckoned time, they will surely say: What withholdeth it? Verily on the day when it cometh unto them, it cannot be averted from them, and that which they derided will surround them.

Mark 13:32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Jeremiah 23:20 The anger of the LORD will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intents of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it clearly. (ERV)

Isaiah 2:11 The haughty looks of man shall be brought low, and the lofty pride of men shall be humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. (ERV)

Proverbs 10:24 What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. (ERV)

11.9. And if we cause man to taste some mercy from Us and afterward withdraw it from him, lo! he is despairing, thankless.

11.10. And if We cause him to taste grace after some misfortune that had befallen him, he saith: The ills have gone from me. Lo! he is exultant, boastful;

Matthew 18:23-34 “For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves. 24“When he had begun to settle them, one who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. 25“But since he did not have the means to repay, his lord commanded him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made. 26“So the slave fell to the ground and prostrated himself before him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will repay you everything.’ 27“And the lord of that slave felt compassion and released him and forgave him the debt. 28“But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred denarii; and he seized him and began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay back what you owe.’ 29“So his fellow slave fell to the ground and began to plead with him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will repay you.’ 30“But he was unwilling and went and threw him in prison until he should pay back what was owed. 31“So when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened. 32“Then summoning him, his lord said to him, ‘You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33‘Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, in the same way that I had mercy on you?’ 34“And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him. (NASB)

Psalm 10:4-6 The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek Him. All his thoughts are, "There is no God." 5His ways prosper at all times; Your judgments are on high, out of his sight; As for all his adversaries, he snorts at them. 6He says to himself, "I will not be moved; Throughout all generations I will not be in adversity."(NAS)

Psalm 106:13 But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Psalm 107:21 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!

11.11. Save those who persevere and do good works. Theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward.

1Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (ERV)

Romans 2:7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; (ERV)

11.12. A likely thing, that thou wouldst forsake aught of that which hath been revealed unto thee, and that thy breast should be straitened for it, because they say: Why hath not a treasure been sent down for him, or an angel come with him? Thou art but a warner, and Allah is in charge of all things.

The Koran here declares the prophet as warner to Arabia.  Yet they did not obey and they have lost sight of that which they were told.

Luke 16:31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'"

John 5:30 I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. (ERV)

John 8:28 So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. (ERV)

John 12:40 “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”  (ERV)

Mankind looks for signs and miracles but they still do not see or understand when they are in the midst of signs and miracles being done. There will be no sign given them but the Sign of Jonah as we saw from Surah 9 “Jonah” (see also the Sign of Jonah and the History of the Reconstruction of the Temple (No. 013)).

11.13. Or they say: He hath invented it. Say: Then bring ten surahs, the like thereof, invented, and call on everyone ye can beside Allah, if ye are truthful!

11.14. And if they answer not your prayer, then know that it is revealed only in the knowledge of Allah; and that there is no God save Him. Will ye then be (of) those who surrender?

From one Surah the challenge has increased to ten here as seen in Scripture.

Isaiah 45:21 Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me. (ESV)

Jeremiah 2:28 "But where are your gods Which you made for yourself? Let them arise, if they can save you In the time of your trouble; For according to the number of your cities Are your gods, O Judah. (NAS)

Their gods cannot duplicate what the Almighty God has done. The prophets sent by God were moved by the Holy Spirit.

1Kings 18:21, 24 21Elijah came near to all the people and said, "How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people did not answer him a word.

24 "Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD, and the God who answers by fire, He is God." And all the people said, "That is a good idea." (NAS)

Habukkuk 2:18 "What good is an idol carved by man, or a cast image that deceives you? How foolish to trust in your own creation--a god that can't even talk!

1Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

John 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. (ERV)

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (ERV)

11.15. Whoso desireth the life of the world and its pomp, We shall repay them their deeds herein, and therein they will not be wronged.

1John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. (ERV)

Mark 4:19 but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. (ERV)

Psalm 28:4 Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward. (ERV)

Matthew 6:2 Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. (ESV)

Proverb 22:4 The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life. (ESV)

Ephesians 2:3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. (ESV)

11.16. Those are they for whom is naught in the Hereafter save the Fire. (All) that they contrive here is vain and (all) that they are wont to do is fruitless.

Matthew 25:46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Romans 8:5-6 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. (ERV)

Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

11.17. Is he (to be counted equal with them) who relieth on a clear proof from his Lord, and a witness from Him reciteth it, and before it was the Book of Moses, an example and a mercy? Such believe therein, and whoso disbelieveth therein of the clans, the Fire is his appointed place. So be not thou in doubt concerning it. Lo! it is the Truth from thy Lord; but most of mankind believe not.

Believers are not counted equal to unbelievers. Light is not equal to darkness. Believers are doers and not hearers only. Note also that the Books of Moses are the basis of the faith and they were present and intact with the Prophet and the council of the Muhammad.

2Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? (ERV)

James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

The believers are the saints of God; those who keep the commandments and the faith and testimony of Christ.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. (ERV)

Compare also Revelation 20:12-15 which is a common theme in many of the Surahs.

11.18. Who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah? Such will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say: These are they who lied concerning their Lord. Now the curse of Allah is upon wrong-doers,

Jeremiah 2:8-9 "The priests did not say, 'Where is the LORD?' And those who handle the law did not know Me; The rulers also transgressed against Me, And the prophets prophesied by Baal And walked after things that did not profit. 9"Therefore I will yet contend with you," declares the LORD, "And with your sons' sons I will contend. (NAS)

Matthew 7:15-23 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? 17So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. 21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’(ESV)

The entire world is at that point now except for a small part of the Churches of God.

11.19. Who debar (men) from the way of Allah and would have it crooked, and who are disbelievers in the Hereafter.

11.20. Such will not escape in the earth, nor have they any protecting friends beside Allah. For them the torment will be double. They could not bear to hear, and they used not to see.

The text refers to those who do not enter the Kingdom of God and prevent those that follow them from doing so.

(cf. also Romans 1:18 above)

Those unbelievers who practice lawlessness will be consigned to the Second Resurrection to face intensive training and correction, and if they still do not repent and mend their ways they will face the second death and forever cease to exist.

11.24. The similitude of the two parties is as the blind and the deaf and the seer and the hearer. Are they equal in similitude? Will ye not then be admonished?

Noah was sent to warn his people of impending destruction and that they should worship only the One True God (Eloah, Ha Elohim). They did not heed his warning and died in the flood that soon came their way and were sent to the Second Resurrection to face corrective training. The Rephaim or Nephilim will not be resurrected (see The Resurrection of the Dead (No.143)).

Genesis 6:7, 13 7So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them."

13 So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.

11.27. The chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: We see thee but a mortal like us, and we see not that any follow thee save the most abject among us, without reflection. We behold in you no merit above us - nay, we deem you liars.

11.28. He said: O my people! Bethink you, if I rely on a clear proof from my Lord and there hath come unto me a mercy from His presence, and it hath been made obscure to you, can we compel you to accept it when ye are averse thereto?

The people did not believe his message as he was just like them, a mortal, and those who believed in him were not prominent members of their society. Noah's task was only to deliver the message; he could not force them to accept the message.

11.29. And O my people! I ask of you no wealth therefore. My reward is the concern only of Allah, and I am not going to thrust away those who believe - Lo! they have to meet their Lord! - but I see you a folk that are ignorant.

11.30. And, O my people! who would deliver me from Allah if I thrust them away? Will ye not then reflect?

Noah and all the prophets were not interested in their wealth and their duty was to God and for the believers.

11.32. They said: O Noah! Thou hast disputed with us and multiplied disputation with us; now bring upon us that wherewith thou threatenest us, if thou art of the truthful.

11.33. He said: Only Allah will bring it upon you if He will, and ye can by no means escape.

11.34. My counsel will not profit you if I were minded to advise you, if Allah's will is to keep you astray. He is your Lord and unto Him ye will be brought back.

11.35. Or say they (again): He hath invented it? Say: If I have invented it, upon me be my crimes, but I am innocent of (all) that ye commit.

They wanted to see the destruction he was warning them about, the timing of which only God knew. The unbelievers cannot escape their ruin when it comes. Those left to stray will not believe. We reap what we sow.

11.36. And it was inspired in Noah, (saying): No-one of thy folk will believe save him who hath believed already. Be not distressed because of what they do.

11.37. Build the ship under Our eyes and by Our inspiration, and speak not unto Me on behalf of those who do wrong. Lo! they will be drowned.

11.38. And he was building the ship, and every time that chieftains of his people passed him, they made mock of him. He said: Though ye make mock of Us, yet We mock at you even as ye mock;

11.39. And ye shall know to whom a punishment that will confound him cometh, and upon whom a lasting doom will fall.

11.40. (Thus it was) till, when Our commandment came to pass and the oven gushed forth water, We said: Load therein two of every kind, a pair (the male and female), and thy household, save him against whom the word hath gone forth already, and those who believe. And but a few were they who believed with him.

11.41. And he said: Embark therein! In the name of Allah be its course and its mooring. Lo! my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.

Genesis 6:14, 19-20 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.

19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.

Genesis 7:1 The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.

Genesis 7:17-18, 23 Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.

23Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. (NAS)

Psalm 86:5 For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You. (NAS)

11.42. And it sailed with them amid waves like mountains, and Noah cried unto his son - and he was standing aloof - O my son! Come ride with us, and be not with the disbelievers.

11.43. He said: I shall betake me to some mountain that will save me from the water. (Noah) said: This day there is none that saveth from the commandment of Allah save him on whom He hath had mercy. And the wave came in between them, so he was among the drowned.

Genesis 7:18-20 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet.

So it seems from the Arabian traditions, or from revelation, that Noah had a son (either of lineage or adoption) that drowned in the flood through lack of faith and disobedience. God warned the Arabs and those associated with them, and they have not listened but corrupted the Koran and the Faith as they had corrupted Scripture before them.

11.44. And it was said: O earth! Swallow thy water and, O sky! be cleared of clouds! And the water was made to subside. And the commandment was fulfilled. And it (the ship) came to rest upon (the mount) Al-Judi and it was said: A far removal for wrongdoing folk!

11.45. And Noah cried unto his Lord and said: My Lord! Lo! my son is of my household! Surely Thy promise is the truth and Thou are the Most Just of Judges.

11.46. He said: O Noah! Lo! he is not of thy household; lo! he is of evil conduct, so ask not of Me that whereof thou hast no knowledge. I admonish thee lest thou be among the ignorant.

Genesis 8:1-4  But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. 2Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky. 3The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, 4and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

The promise of salvation applies to the faithful of God.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (ESV)

11.47. He said: My Lord! Lo! in Thee do I seek refuge (from the sin) that I should ask of Thee that whereof I have no knowledge. Unless Thou forgive me and have mercy on me I shall be among the lost.

Psalm 130:3-4 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

11.48. It was said (unto him): O Noah! Go thou down (from the mountain) with peace from Us and blessings upon thee and some nations (that will spring) from those with thee. (There will be other) nations unto whom We shall give enjoyment a long while and then a painful doom from Us will overtake them.

Genesis 8:15-19 Then God said to Noah, 16"Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. 17Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you--the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground--so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number upon it." 18So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives. 19All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds--everything that moves on the earth--came out of the ark, one kind after another.

Genesis 9:1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

11.49. This is of the tidings of the Unseen which We inspire in thee (Muhammad). Thou thyself knewest it not, nor did thy folk (know it) before this. Then have patience. Lo! the sequel is for those who ward off (evil).

The story was revealed by God established from of old, and a good outcome is the reward for those who shun evil.

Hud and the people of A’ad

11.50. And unto (the tribe of) A'ad (We sent) their brother, Hud. He said: O my people! Serve Allah! Ye have no other God save Him. Lo! ye do but invent.

11.51. O my people! I ask of you no reward for it. Lo! my reward is the concern only of Him Who made me. Have ye then no sense?

God sent Hud to the people of A’ad, and sent prophets to a number of other people as we will see, and saw previously with Surah 10: Jonah (Q010) above. The faith was to be extended to the gentiles as we saw in Genesis 48:17-20 through Ephraim and later Manasseh.

Who were they?

Shem, son of Noah, had a son named Iram. And one of Iram's sons was A'ad. So they named the town after his son which became a city which retained the name of 'Ad. The town of 'Ad was allegedly very dusty and located near Ahqaf, near Hadramout in Yemen.

There they built palaces, erected temples and worshipped deities and stars.

"Seest thou not how Thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people), of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, the like of which were not produced in (all) the land?" (Qur'an 89:6-8)

The traditional view was that the names of their chief deities were Saqi'ah, Salimah, Raziqah and Hafizun. This worshipping of statues came after a time when the people of A’ad once believed in the One True God Eloah. The text in Q29:38 links them also to the people of Thamud using Salih, and those of Midian using Shu’yeb associated with Jethro priest of Midian. Thus these deities were associated with the times of Shem and Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and down to Moses and Aaron.

"(Remember also) the 'Ad and the Thamud (people): clearly will appear to you from (the traces) of their buildings (their fate) Satan made their deeds alluring to them, and kept them back from the Path, though they were Keen-sighted." (Qur'an 29:38)

For this same reason the children of Job were killed for celebrating their birthdays under the Satanic systems (cf. Job ch. 1), probably under this influence.

Deuteronomy 6:13 "You shall fear only the LORD your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name.

Revelation 22:12  "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.

11.52. And, O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord, then turn unto Him repentant; He will cause the sky to rain abundance on you and will add unto you strength to your strength. Turn not away, guilty!

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

2Chronicles 7:14  if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (ESV)

Deuteronomy 11:14 that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil. (NASB)

Deuteronomy 28:12-13 The LORD will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. 13"The LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I charge you today, to observe them carefully, (NASB)

Psalm 34:14-16 Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. 15The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry. 16The face of the LORD is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth. (NASB)

11.53. They said: O Hud! Thou hast brought us no clear proof and we are not going to forsake our gods on thy (mere) saying, and we are not believers in thee.

Thus Hud was rejected by his own people, for a prophet is not without honour except in his own country and among his own people (Lk. 4:24).

Deuteronomy 7:4 for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly. (ESV)

Deuteronomy 8:19  And if you forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish. (ESV)

Joshua 24:20 If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.” (ESV)

Judges 2:12-15 and they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked the LORD to anger. 13So they forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of plunderers who plundered them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had spoken and as the LORD had sworn to them, so that they were severely distressed. (NASB)

They will follow in the traditions of their fathers and reap the same consequences of their evil deeds.

11.54. We say naught save that one of our gods hath possessed thee in an evil way. He said: I call Allah to witness, and do ye (too) bear witness, that I am innocent of (all) that ye ascribe as partners (to Allah)

(cf. John 8:28 above)

Hebrews 1:1-2 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world (aionas or ages). (ESV)

The age was of the Second Recreation.

2Peter 1:20-21 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. (NASB)

John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. (ESV)

Joshua 24:14-15 "Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15"If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (NASB)

11.55. Beside Him. So (try to) circumvent me, all of you, give me no respite.

They were unbelievers and did not forsake the gods of their fathers. They claimed the messenger was possessed by some evil. The messenger was in fact guided by the Holy Spirit and conveyed the message given to him by the One True God Eloah or Allah.

11.56. Lo! I have put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Not an animal but He doth grasp it by the forelock! Lo! my Lord is on a straight path.

Psalm 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me. (ESV)

11.57. And if ye turn away, still I have conveyed unto you that wherewith I was sent unto you, and my Lord will set in place of you a folk other than you. Ye cannot injure Him at all. Lo! my Lord is Guardian over all things.

Deuteronomy 30:17-20 “But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, 18I declare to you today that you shall surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it. 19“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, 20by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” (NASB)

2Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.(NASB)

1Timothy 4:10 For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. (ESV)

The messenger had delivered the message and they would be replaced by another group of people if they refused to turn from their lawless ways and live in compliance with the commandments of the living God.  If they do not heed the message of the messenger they will ruin their physical lives and end up facing corrective training and judgement in the Second Resurrection.

11.58. And when Our commandment came to pass We saved Hud and those who believed with him by a mercy from Us; We saved them from a harsh doom.

11.59. And such were A'ad. They denied the revelations of their Lord and flouted His messengers and followed the command of every froward  potentate.

All these people were hard headed and were and are to be punished.

Jeremiah 16:10-12 “Now when you tell this people all these words, they will say to you, ‘For what reason has the LORD declared all this great calamity against us? And what is our iniquity, or what is our sin which we have committed against the LORD our God?’ 11“Then you are to say to them, ‘It is because your forefathers have forsaken Me,’ declares the LORD, ‘and have followed other gods and served them and bowed down to them; but Me they have forsaken and have not kept My law. 12‘You too have done evil, even more than your forefathers; for behold, you are each one walking according to the stubbornness of his own evil heart, without listening to Me. 1Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. (NASB)

2Peter 3:3-9 Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, 4and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” 5For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, 6through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. 7But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. 11.60. And a curse was made to follow them in the world and on the Day of Resurrection. Lo! A'ad disbelieved in their Lord. A far removal for A'ad, the folk of Hud!

God saved Hud and those who believed with him from the ruin that came upon the unbelievers who denied the revelations brought by the messenger.

They will answer for their deeds during the Second Resurrection as will the majority of the sons of Keturah and of Ishmael and of Israel and Judah.

Salih is also rejected by Thamud

(Cf. the notes above re A’ad and Thamud with Hud.)

11.61. And unto (the tribe of) Thamud (We sent) their brother Salih. He said: O my people! Serve Allah, Ye have no other God save Him. He brought you forth from the earth and hath made you husband it. So ask forgiveness of Him and turn unto Him repentant. Lo! my Lord is Nigh, Responsive.

Joshua 23:3 And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the LORD your God who has fought for you.

Mark 7:7 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

The gods of the nations in Canaan could not deliver their devotees from the battles won by the people of God. Similarly the people of A’ad and Thamud perished as their gods were of no help against the Almighty God.

The oldest known reference to Thamud is a 715 BC inscription of the Assyrian king Sargon II, which mentions them as being among the people of eastern and central Arabia subjugated by the Assyrians. They were living there much earlier, well before Abraham when we compare the family tree of Prophets, as their Ancestors were Iram and Ars.[2]

They are referred to as ‘Tamudaei’ in the writings of Aristo of ChiosPtolemy, and Pliny.[3]

Thus they are in Central and Southern Arabia but associated with the A’ad people in Yemen being also sons of Iram and seemingly A’ad and were alive at the time of Abraham. It seems that the descendants of Shem did not develop in righteousness and Abraham was forced to kill some and then tithe to Melchisedek as they were Shem’s descendants. So also God sent these prophets to them and had the A’ad killed.

11.63. He said: O my people! Bethink you: if I am (acting) on clear proof from my Lord and there hath come unto me a mercy from Him, who will save me from Allah if I disobey Him? Ye would add to me naught save perdition.

11.64. O my people! This is the camel of Allah, a token unto you, so suffer her to feed in Allah's earth, and touch her not with harm lest a near torment seize you.

11.65. But they hamstrung her, and then he said: Enjoy life in your dwelling-place three days! This is a threat that will not be belied.

11.66. So, when Our commandment came to pass, We saved Salih, and those who believed with him, by a mercy from Us, from the ignominy of that day. Lo, thy Lord! He is the Strong, the Mighty.

11.67. And the (awful) Cry overtook those who did wrong, so that morning found them prostrate in their dwellings,

11.68. As though they had not dwelt there. Lo! Thamud disbelieved in their Lord. A far removal for Thamud!

The people were asked to allow the camel to feed on Allah's earth and not to harm her. They killed the camel and the promised destruction came upon them. The messenger and those who believed were saved. The lesson here was that even though these people were all of the sons of Noah and were grandsons of Shem, priest of Melchisedek at Salem, they were sinners and not saved and only those of the elect as servants of the living God Eloah, as Ha Elohim, were saved.  These messages are directed at the Arabs as sons of Keturah and the sons of Ishmael, and the Gentiles in their entirety that claim refuge in Islam which they have perverted.

Then we proceed to deal with the people of Lot and in the Jordan plain.

Lot

11.69. And Our messengers came unto Abraham with good news. They said: Peace! He answered: Peace! and delayed not to bring a roasted calf.

11.70. And when he saw their hands reached not to it, he mistrusted them and conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! Lo! we are sent unto the folk of Lot (cf. the Angel of YHVH (No. 024)).

Genesis 18:1-8 The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. 2Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. 3He said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.4Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. 5Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way--now that you have come to your servant." "Very well," they answered, "do as you say." 6So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. "Quick," he said, "get three seahs of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread." 7Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it. 8He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.

11.71. And his wife, standing by laughed when We gave her good tidings (of the birth) of Isaac, and, after Isaac, of Jacob.

11.72. She said: Oh woe is me! Shall I bear a child when I am an old woman, and this my husband is an old man? Lo! this is a strange thing!

11.73. They said: Wonderest thou at the commandment of Allah? The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, O people of the house! Lo! He is Owner of Praise, Owner of Glory!

Genesis 18:10-15 Then the LORD said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. 11Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?" 13Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' 14Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son." 15Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh."

11.74. And when the awe departed from Abraham, and the glad news reached him, he pleaded with Us on behalf of the folk of Lot. 11.75. Lo! Abraham was mild, imploring, penitent.

11.76. (It was said) O Abraham! Forsake this! Lo! thy Lord's commandment hath gone forth, and lo! there cometh unto them a doom which cannot be repelled.

Genesis 18:20-33 Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous 21that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know." 22The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD. 23Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25Far be it from you to do such a thing--to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?" 26The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake." 27Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?" "If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it." 29Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?" He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it." 30Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?" He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." 31Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it." 32Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it." 33When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

11.77. And when Our messengers came unto Lot, he was distressed and knew not how to protect them. He said: This is a distressful day.

11.78. And his people came unto him, running towards him - and before then they used to commit abominations - He said: O my people! Here are my daughters! They are purer for you. Beware of Allah, and degrade me not in (the person of) my guests. Is there not among you any upright man?

11.79. They said: Well thou knowest that we have no right to thy daughters, and well thou knowest what we want.

11.80. He said: Would that I had strength to resist you or had some strong support (among you)!

11.81. (The messengers) said: O Lot! Lo! we are messengers of thy Lord; they shall not reach thee. So travel with thy people in a part of the night, and let not one of you turn round - (all) save thy wife. Lo! that which smiteth them will smite her (also). Lo! their tryst is (for) the morning. Is not the morning nigh?

11.82. So when Our commandment came to pass We overthrew (that township) and rained upon it stones of clay, one after another,

11.83. Marked with fire in the providence of thy Lord (for the destruction of the wicked). And they are never far from the wrong-doers.

Ayats 77 to 83 are a retelling of Genesis 19 verses 1 to 29.

Shu’eyb at Midian

Shu’eyb is associated with Jethro priest of Midian by the Arab historians.

Moses’ father-in-law was called Hobab, who was the son of Reuel or Raguel (Num. 10:29). Although there is much confusion over these names, it seems that Hobab was also known as Jethro (meaning his excellence).

Numbers 10:29-32  And Moses said to Hobab the son of Reu'el the Mid'ianite, Moses' father-in-law, "We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said, `I will give it to you'; come with us, and we will do you good; for the LORD has promised good to Israel." 30But he said to him, "I will not go; I will depart to my own land and to my kindred." 31And he said, "Do not leave us, I pray you, for you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us. 32And if you go with us, whatever good the LORD will do to us, the same will we do to you." (RSV)

Exodus 3:1a  Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Mid'ian; (RSV)

The name Hobab (SHD 2246) means cherished or loved fervently, perhaps by God, just as much as his own people, which would explain the inspired advice he later gave to Moses regarding judgments given to the Israelites. According to Josephus, Hobab had “Iothor [i.e. Jethro] for a surname”. Jethro’s descent is given as: son of Nawil, son of Rawail, son of Mour, son of Anka, son of Midian, son of Abraham.

Josephus (Ant. Jews, III, iii) claimed that Raguel (also Reuel, as in v. 29) was Moses’ father-in-law, however, Judges 4:11 (see below) clearly states that he was known as Hobab. Matthew Poole gives a reasonable explanation for this discrepancy in his comment on Exodus 2:18 below. Other commentators claim that Jethro was an honorary title, while Reuel was his personal name. Hence, as with the Keturah/Hagar question, there is some contradictory opinion over identity and this perhaps sums up the rather mysterious nature of the sons of Keturah and their descendants.

Reuel (SHD 7467, Re’uw’el) means Friend of God and is a title given to Abraham and was carried by Jethro as Priest of Midian. Raguel is simply another version of this title (see Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary). It was obviously carried by the Priest of Midian as it was carried by the father of Hobab and by Hobab/Jethro himself.

Chobab (SHD 2246) means cherished and is derived from 2245: hide as in the bosom; to cherish.

Yithrow (SHD 3503) means His excellence coming from Yithrah (SHD 3502, excellence). Thus we are looking at Hobab the name and Jethro the title. His Excellence, Hobab, the Friend of God is the rendering of the names of Jethro, Hobab, Reuel or Reguel.

It is thus beyond doubt that he was sheik and High Priest of Midian and hereditary religious leader of the tribe.

Another Reuel mentioned in the Bible is a son of Esau by Bashemath, daughter of Ishmael (Gen. 36:4ff.). See the paper Law and the Seventh Commandment (No. 260).

Burton in The Gold-Mines of Midian has this to say in his footnote on page 332:

Jethro’s Moslem title is “Khatib el-Anbiya,” or Preacher to the Prophets, on account of the words of wisdom which he bestowed upon his son-in-law (Exod. ii. 18) … Some writers have made him the son of Mikhail, ibn Yashjar, ibn Madyan; but they are charged with ignorance by Ahmed ibn Abd el-Halim. El-Kesai states that his original name was Boyun; that he was comely of person, but spare and lean; very thoughtful, and of few words (Sale’s Koran, p. 117). Other commentators add that he was old and blind. In the “Berakhoth,” Jetro [sic.] and Rahab are Gentiles, or strangers, affiliated to Israel on account of their good deeds (p. 48, M. Schwab’s version. Paris: Imprimerie Nationale, 1871).

E.H. Palmer in The Desert of the Exodus (Deighton, Bell & Co., Cambridge, UK, 1871) repeats the assertion that Jethro/Hobab was blind, and had been given a commission to preach the true Faith.

Sho‘eib, as the Arabs call Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, is said to have been blind, notwithstanding which infirmity he was divinely commissioned to preach the true religion lately revealed unto Abraham, and to convert the people of his native city Midian. They rejected his doctrine and mocked the blind prophet, for which sin they were destroyed by fire from heaven, while Midian was laid waste by an earthquake, Jethro alone escaping alive. He fled to Palestine, and is said to be buried near Safed. (ftnt. p. 539; emphasis added)

It appears that Jethro/Hobab, The Friend of God (Raguel: Josephus) took the fact of the supremacy over the Egyptians in the Red Sea as proof positive of the power of the Angel of Yahovah acting for the One True God, with Israel as the people of God (Ex. 18:11). He was already a priest of Midian and it is obvious that he is observing the activities of the Being sent to Israel as proof of the birthright promises given to Isaac. That view was to continue down to the writing of the Qur’an and is reflected in the Qur’an. The Kuturah or Pure Arabs, as well as the sons of Ishmael, resent that birthright to this very day.

(See Exodus 18:1-12)

11.84. And unto Midian (We sent) their brother Shu'eyb. He said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other God save Him! And give not short measure and short weight. Lo! I see you well-to-do, and lo! I fear for you the doom of a besetting Day.

11.85. O my people! Give full measure and full weight in justice, and wrong not people in respect of their goods. And do not evil in the earth, causing corruption.

11.86. That which Allah leaveth with you is better for you if ye are believers; and I am not a keeper over you.

As usual the sons of Shem in Arabia were corrupted and they have corrupted the faith to this day. Yet the faith is open to them by choice and the calling of God.

(cf. also Joshua 24:15 and 24:20 above)

Mankind chooses to go in the way of their traditions and worship the gods they found their parents worshiping. What they claim as their own actually belongs to Allah who provides those things in the first place.

11.88. He said: O my people! Bethink you: if I am (acting) on a clear proof from my Lord and He sustaineth me with fair sustenance from Him (how can I concede aught to you)? Midian was not God fearing and they and all of the sons of Abraham will be brought to repentance in the near future. The Laconian Greeks of Keturah are Sunday worshipping Trinitarian heretics and God will deal with them soon also.

11.94. And when Our commandment came to pass We saved Shu'eyb and those who believed with him by a mercy from Us; and the (Awful) Cry seized those who did injustice, and morning found them prostrate in their dwellings,

11.95. As though they had not dwelt there. A far removal for Midian, even as Thamud had been removed afar!

The messenger and those who believe were saved when disaster came but the unbelievers perished in their sins just like those before them. They were removed far away also.

Psalm 37:20 But the wicked will perish; the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures; they vanish—like smoke they vanish away.

Psalm 37:38 But all sinners will be destroyed; there will be no future for the wicked.

Psalm 92:9 For surely your enemies, LORD, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered.

All the wicked will die in their sins and go to the Second Resurrection. Midian was subdued by Israel over this sin and before the people of Israel. And they lifted up their heads no more and the land had rest 40 years in the days of Gideon (Jdg. 8:28).  So it will be also in the Last Days and the attacks against Israel by the sons of Keturah, Ishmael and all the Arabs will be punished.

Moses was in Midian at the time of Jethro and also is credited with the Book of Job dealing with these sins. He spoke to Midian and also Jethro was with him at the Exodus.  Midian was without excuse and so also are the Arabs in their entirety. The Arabian prophet warns them of this fact and the punishment of Egypt below.

Exodus 4:21 And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the miracles that I have put in your power. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.

Pharaoh's people were obviously going to listen to their master; they could not bite the hand that fed them. God wanted to achieve His purpose so He hardened Pharaoh’s heart so he would not listen to the messengers sent to him.

Exodus 9:12 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses.

11.98. He will go before his people on the Day of Resurrection and will lead them to the Fire for watering-place. Ah, hapless is the watering-place (whither they are) led.

11.99. A curse is made to follow them in the world and on the Day of Resurrection. Hapless is the gift (that will be) given (them).

11.100. That is (something) of the tidings of the townships (which were destroyed of old). We relate it unto thee (Muhammad). Some of them are standing and some (already) reaped.

The Egyptians met with their end in this physical life and will come up in the Second Resurrection to face their judgement.

Isaiah 46:1-2 The Lord says, “Bel has fallen to the ground. Nebo[a] is kneeling before me. “Men put those idols on the backs of animals. They are only heavy burdens that must be carried. They do nothing but make people tired. 2But they all bowed down and fell to the ground. They couldn’t escape; they were all carried away like prisoners.

Also their false gods were of no help to them. They were ruined.

11.102. Even thus is the grasp of thy Lord when He graspeth the townships while they are doing wrong. Lo! His grasp is painful, very strong.

Isaiah 43:13 "Even from eternity I am He, And there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?"

Psalm 50:22 "Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:

11.103. Lo! herein verily there is a portent for those who fear the doom of the Hereafter. That is a day unto which mankind will be gathered, and that is a day that will be witnessed.

11.104. And We defer it only to a term already reckoned.

Matthew 25:41 Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (ESV)

See also Revelation 20:11-12 below at ayat 107.

11.105. On the day when it cometh no soul will speak except by His permission; some among them will be wretched, (others) glad.

11.106. As for those who will be wretched (on that day) they will be in the Fire; sighing and wailing will be their portion therein,

11.107. Abiding there so long as the heavens and the earth endure save for that which thy Lord willeth. Lo! thy Lord is Doer of what He will.

The day of judgement has already been decided and it will come as appointed. It will be a period of intense corrective training. Mankind and the fallen angelic beings by now in the flesh will have their chance to mend their ways and come to repentance. Those who do not will face the second death and will be remembered no more.

Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (ESV)

11.108. And as for those who will be glad (that day) they will be in the Garden, abiding there so long as the heavens and the earth endure save for that which thy Lord willeth: a gift unfailing.

The faithful will gain their reward and eternal life in the First Resurrection and so also those that repent in the Second Resurrection.

Galatians 6:9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

Proverbs 11:18 : The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

1Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Revelation 20:4-6 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. (ERV)

11.109. So be not thou in doubt concerning that which these (folk) worship. They worship only as their fathers worshipped aforetime. Lo! we shall pay them their whole due unabated.

Deuteronomy 12:31 You must not worship the LORD your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the LORD hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.

Jeremiah 10:2 Thus says the LORD: “Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them,

Israel was warned not to go the way of the nations but they did that even after seeing all the signs and miracles performed by God in Egypt and in the wilderness. So mankind will continue in the traditions of their fathers until Messiah comes to wipe out all the apostate systems that plague the earth at this time including Hadithic and all corrupted Islam.

11.110. And we verily gave unto Moses the Scripture, and there was strife thereupon; and had it not been for a Word that had already gone forth from thy Lord, the case would have been judged between them, and lo! they are in grave doubt concerning it.

Acts 7:38 This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. He received living oracles to give to us.

John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

2Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

2Peter 3:16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.

Jeremiah 23:36 But you must not mention 'a message from the LORD' again, because each one's word becomes their own message. So you distort the words of the living God, the LORD Almighty, our God.

11.111. And lo! unto each thy Lord will verily repay his works in full. Lo! He is Informed of what they do.

Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.

Job 34:11 He repays everyone for what they have done; he brings on them what their conduct deserves.

During the Second Resurrection all mankind will come before God to face judgement and their differences and misunderstanding will be brought to light and explained and corrected. Their chance at eternal life will be extended to all of them including the demons and if they do not obey God and repent they will simply die and then their bodies will be burned in the Lake of Fire.

11.112. So tread thou the straight path as thou art commanded, and those who turn (unto Allah) with thee, and transgress not. Lo! He is Seer of what ye do.

Titus 3:8 The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Psalm 14:2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. (ESV)

Psalm 11:4-5 The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD'S throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. 5The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates. (NAS)

11.113. And incline not toward those who do wrong lest the Fire touch you, and ye have no protecting friends against Allah, and afterward ye would not be helped.

Ephesians 5:11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

Romans 13:12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Psalm 121:1-2 A Song of Ascents. I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? 2My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

Isaiah 59:16 And He saw that there was no man, And was astonished that there was no one to intercede; Then His own arm brought salvation to Him, And His righteousness upheld Him. (NAS)

Proverbs 21:30 No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the LORD. (ESV)

11.114. Establish worship at the two ends of the day and in some watches of the night. Lo! good deeds annul ill-deeds. This is reminder for the mindful.

Daniel 6:10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.

Psalm 55:17 Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.

Titus 3:1-8 Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, 2to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. 3For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. (ESV)

11.115. And have patience, (O Muhammad), for lo! Allah loseth not the wages of the good.

Hebrews 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise. (ERV)

Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.

11.116. If only there had been among the generations before you men possessing a remnant (of good sense) to warn (their people) from corruption in the earth, as did a few of those whom We saved from them! The wrong-doers followed that by which they were made sapless, and were guilty.

11.117. In truth thy Lord destroyed not the townships tyrannously while their folk were doing right.

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets.

Matthew 24:37-39  For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

Ezekiel 3:17-19 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 18If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 19But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.

Ezekiel 18:20-21 "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son's iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself. 21"But if the wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed and observes all My statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall surely live; he shall not die. (NAS)

11.118. And if thy Lord had willed, He verily would have made mankind one nation, yet they cease not differing,

God did not make humans to be like robots with no freedom to make choices. So mankind does what seems right in their own eyes. This results in mankind falling into two camps, those who do the will of God and those who live not according to the law and the testimony (cf. the Problem of Evil (No. 118)).

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

Matthew 25:46 "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Acts 17:26-31 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ 29Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. 30The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”(ESV)

11.119. Save him on whom thy Lord hath mercy; and for that He did create them. And the Word of thy Lord hath been fulfilled: Verily I shall fill hell with the jinn and mankind together.

Romans 9:15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

Acts 17:25-26 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, (ESV)

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

See also Revelation 20:11-15 above.

11.120. And all that We relate unto thee of the story of the messengers is in order that hereby We may make firm thy heart. And herein hath come unto thee the Truth and an exhortation and a reminder for believers.

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Psalm 55:22 Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

11.121. And say unto those who believe not: Act according to your power. Lo! We (too) are acting.

11.122. And wait! Lo! We (too) are waiting.

Revelation 22:11 "Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy."

11.123. And Allah's is the Invisible of the heavens and the earth, and unto Him the whole matter will be returned. So worship Him and put thy trust in Him. Lo! thy Lord is not unaware of what ye (mortals) do.

1Chronicles 29:11-12 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

Job 42:2 “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

Proverb 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

Psalm 14:2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. (ESV)

(cf. also Psalm 11:4-5 above).

We know that the Council of the sons of God described in Revelation 4 and 5 were here when God gave the order to them : "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; (Gen. 1:26).

They all say to the One True God: "Worthy art thou our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for thou didst create all things, and by thy will they existed and were created."

The plan of Salvation is entirely the product of the One True God and this Surah deals with the sins and obstinance of the sons of Abraham throughout the world and they have not repented. They will be called to account when Messiah returns soon.
